How to Make Italian Style Stuffed Peppers with Minced Meat?

For me personally, nothing beats the Turkish style stuffed peppers that my grandmother made. However, this Italian style stuffed peppers with minced meat is different from the Turkish style and has a really delicious taste.

First of all, I stated it as stuff peppers with minced meat, but you don’t have to put minced meat inside. Italians add minced Italian sausage to their stuffed peppers or they use minced chicken or minced turkey. In addition they add mozzarella and parmesan cheese. We boil the peppers in tomato sauce in Turkey, but Italians bake them instead. Another thing is done in this Italian style stuff peppers is that the peppers are first cut half, then filled, whereas in Turkey we fill the peppers as a whole.

Ingredients for Italian Style Stuffed Peppers with Minced Meat

  • 3-4 bell peppers
  • 1 onion

  • 250 grams of minced chicken or turkey (In the original recipes, they use Italian sausages mostly. You can use minced beef meat instead of chicken and turkey, and you can use minced beans for vegetarian option.
  • 4 tomatoes (you can use canned diced tomatoes.)
  • 1 glass of rice or bulgur
  • Mozzarella
  • Parmesan cheese
  • A pinch of fresh parsley or basil
  • Half a teaspoon of thyme
  • Half a teaspoon of oregano
  • Half a teaspoon of basil
  • Half a teaspoon of rosemary
  • Salt
  • Black pepper

How to Make Italian Style Stuffed Peppers with Minced Meat?

  1. First, cut the peppers in half, with the stem in the middle.
  2. Remove the seeds from the peppers and rinse inside.
  3. Set the oven to 180 ° C.
  4. Lay the peppers on a baking tray, add some olive oil and let it cook for 10 minutes.
  5. Sauté diced onions in a pan.
  6. When the onions begin to turn pink, add the minced meat of your choice and spices.
  7. Cut the tomatoes peeled into cubes and add to the pan.
  8. Boil the rice in a separate pot for 10 minutes.
  9. Add the boiled rice to the mixture in the pot.
  10. Add half of the mozzarella and parmesan cheese to the pan and mix well.
  11. Add salt and pepper.
  12. Take the peppers out of the oven and fill them with the mixture.
  13. Add the remaining mozzarella and parmesan cheese on top of the stuffed peppers.
  14. Put the stuffed peppers in the oven and cook for 10 minutes. Your dish is ready!

How to Serve Italian Style Stuffed Peppers with Minced Meat?

  • You can serve it by sprinkling fresh parsley or fresh basil over the stuffed.

Tips for Italian Style Stuffed Peppers with Minced Meat

  • You can use green, red, orange or yellow bell peppers in order to add a mild sweetness to the meal as they taste sweeter than green pepper. However, you can also get a good taste with green bell pepper.
  • Peppers put in the oven should not be fully cooked. Make sure they are roasted but not cooked well, because the peppers will be baked again after they are stuffed.
