What is Brezel?
Although I mention it on the Swiss food list, these salty bagels are actually unique to Germany. However, it is consumed in Switzerland just as much as in Germany and is one of the national foods for Swiss people.

- 500 grams of flour
- 250 ml warm water
- 2 teaspoons of sugar
- 1 pack of yeast
- 3 teaspoons of baking powder
- 50 grams of butter
- 1 teaspoon of salt

- 6 tablespoons of baking soda
- 2 liters of water
- Coarse salt
How to Make Brezel Recipe?
Brezel Dough Preparation
- Pour half a glass of warm water into a small bowl and add sugar.
- Add yeast on top, mix and set aside.
- Put the flour in a large mixing bowl and add the melted butter and baking powder.
- Add the rest of the warm water to the flour mixture, then add the yeast and sugar water to the dough.
- Stir a little and add salt.
- Knead the dough until it is soft and elastic.
- Cover and let the dough stand for 1 hour to rise.
- Knead the rising dough a little more and divide it into 8 parts.
- After dividing the dough, let it rest for 10 minutes in order to shape it easily.
- Take the dough pieces and shape them as in the below picture. Make sure that the middle of the dough is relatively thick compared to the end.
How to Cook Brezel?
- Add 2 lt of water to a saucepan and boil.
- After the water boils, turn the stove down and add 6 spoons of baking soda to the water.
- Take the brezels, drop them into the water one by one and hold for 10 seconds. Then remove them and place them on the baking tray.
- Sprinkle coarse salt on the bretzels you lay on the baking tray and leave to rest for 15 minutes.
- Heat the stove to 200 ° C and put the brezels in the oven.
- It will be cooked in 15-20 minutes.
How is the German Bagel Brezel Served?
- You can serve the Brezels with cold butter.
