What is Cheese Fondue?
Cheese fondue is a delicious Swiss dish in which white wine is added to melted cheese, and bread is dipped into this mixture with the help of long forks. Ingredients for Cheese Fondue Recipe
- 1 whole bread
- 250 grams of gruyere cheese
- 250 grams of Emmental cheese
- 1 glass of white wine
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- A pinch of nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 2-3 tablespoons of cherry liqueur (Kirsch)
How to make Cheese Fondue?
- Put the fondue pot on the stove and after it is well warmed, rub inside the pot thoroughly with the garlic that you cut in half.
- In a separate bowl, grate the gruyere cheese and Emmental cheese with the thick side of the grater.
- Add cornstarch to the grated cheese and mix.
- Add the white wine and lemon juice to the fondue pan, which you have rubbed with garlic, and leave on medium heat until it is thoroughly heated.
- After the wine is heated, put the pot on low heat and slowly add the grated cheese to the pot.
- Stir the cheese with a wooden spoon, but be careful not to scratch the bottom while stirring.
- Add nutmeg walnuts and mix.
- Finally add Kirsch and mix one last time. Your fondue is ready!

- You can eat the fondue by dipping the bite-sized sliced bread into the pot with the help of a fork.
How to Serve Cheese Fondue?
- Cheese fondue is served in a cheese fondue pot. This set consists of a saucepan, fondue forks and a small spirit cooker.
- Place the fondue bowl on the spirit stove in the middle of the table so that it does not get cold (If you do not have a spirit stove, you can use candles).
- If you wish, you can fry the sliced bread in the oven and make it crunchy.
What to Dip in Cheese Fondue?
- In addition to bread, you can prepare boiled potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower or sliced fruits such as apples and pears for serving.
- White wine is what goes best with fondue as a beverage.

- After putting the cheese in the pot, the heat of the stove must be low and you should be very careful that the cheese does not burn.
- If you don’t have cherry liqueur, you can put another drink that is high in alcohol, such as vodka.
