What is Spätzle?

Knöpfle is the Swiss version of Spätzle that is one of Germany’s most popular foods. It’s kind of pasta which is made with a mixture of egg and flour. Spätzle means “little sparrows” while Knöpfle means “little buttons”.

It has only 3 materials and is very easy to make. Let’s have a look at this Spätzle recipe together.

Ingredients for Spätzle Recipe

  • 400 g flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 220 ml cold water
  • 1 tablespoon of salt

How To Make Spätzle?

  1. Put all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well with a wooden spoon.
  2. Keep mixing until the dough froths and flows smoothly from the spoon.

  4. Now it is time to pour the pasta into the water. A special Spätzle container is used for this. If you don’t have it, you can use a colander instead. Put a piece of dough on the colander and let it fall into the boiling hot water through the holes.

How Is Spätzle Served?

  • You can serve the pasta by cooking it a little in butter or mix it with any pasta sauce.

  • Put the pasta in cold water immediately after taking it out of the pot so that it will keep its shape better.
